Fairphone gives free access to ChatLicense

News

1 September 2025

From now on, every new Fairphone sold in Europe comes with free access to our ChatLicense app! This step stems from the partnership announced by both tech companies last February, as part of their shared mission to make technology more sustainable and socially responsible.

Balanced start

Since the launch of The Fairphone (Gen. 6), the sustainable electronics brand has been actively promoting responsible smartphone use through the minimalist Fairphone Moments mode, which helps users- adults and young alike use their Fairphones more responsibly by reducing excess screen time. The new addition of ChatLicense supports families and young users from the very first moment, providing practical tools for healthy digital habits. This collaboration helps set a new standard for smartphone ownership and use, with special focus on the next generation.

Martine de Leeuw, co-founder ChatLicense: “This partnership contributes to our mission to be the first app on every first smartphone. With Fairphone, we’re joining forces and putting responsible technology at the heart of this generation. Fairphone provides sustainable devices, and we help young people (and their parents!) use them smartly and safely.”

Marjolein van Osch, Head of eCommerce at Fairphone: “At Fairphone, we strive not only for fair working conditions and a healthier planet, but also to provide a more responsible digital experience for our users. For children, a first smartphone is a big step. That’s why we’re proud that starting this September, every new Fairphone will come with free ChatLicense, a tool that helps them explore their digital world safely and confidently. In this way, we support families in getting off to a balanced start and work together toward a future where technology is truly sustainable, in both production and use.”
