ChatLicense is now available in Flemish. The award-winning educational Game for children and its accompanying Guide for parents have been localized to the Belgian context. Through our partnership with Telenet, Belgian families can now use the app for free for that exact moment their child receives their first smartphone. The shared ambition is to ensure Belgian youth make a safe, mindful and confident start to their digital lives.
There is a growing need for support when it comes to digital parenting. Two and a half years ago, ChatLicense was born as a parent’s initiative, with the mission to prepare first-time smartphone users – regardless of age – in taking these crucial first steps in the digital world, together with their parents. The app guides children towards earning their digital driver’s license with interactive assignments and conversations, while giving parents the tools to stay in conversation about this with their child.
Shared mission with Telenet
Telenet aligns itself with this mission, offering ChatLicense for free to customers who take out a Telenet Junior Subscription. The collaboration is a joint initiative to empower families in navigating this digital age.
“We don’t only want to offer families technology, but also support to use it safely and wisely,” says Dieter Nieuwdorp, Chief Commercial Officer at Telenet group. “With ChatLicense, we give children and parents a shared basis that foster conversations about what it means to play, chat and share online.”
A good start online
ChatLicense uses a scientifically backed learning method from Erasmus University Rotterdam, created together with experts and researchers. Tailoring to the Belgian market, translations and a collaboration with Mediawijs have been realized. The app – awarded the title of the “Best solution worldwide for digital well-being of children and teenagers” – is now extending its reach to Flemish families.
“That first smartphone is a crucial moment,” says Marjolein van Tilburg, founder of ChatLicense. “It requires a positive approach of learning to understand what your child will be confronted with and deciding on your own rules together. The app makes this an enjoyable experience that empowers parents and makes children both aware and confident.”
The digital driver’s license for the smartphone is available for free in the Netherlands for Dutch families through Odido, the Municipality of Rotterdam and Rabobank, amongst others.
