ChatLicense pre-installed on the Rebel Cactus X Teens smartwatch
ChatLicense is now pre-installed on the Rebel Cactus X Teens smartwatch. Children who wear this smartwatch can also earn their “digital driver’s license” for the online world. While Rebel Cactus gives children the freedom to venture out on their own, ChatLicense helps them navigate the online space smartly and consciously from the very beginning.
Wearing a watch often coincides with a child’s first steps toward independence outside the home, cycling to the playground or sports club, sending a message to say they’ve arrived safely, or letting you know they’d like to stay a little longer. But with that first message, a whole new world opens up: group chats, various temptations, and the opinions of others.
This is where the ChatLicense app comes in. Through a game-based experience, children navigate a series of challenges and dilemmas, covering everything from cyberbullying to screen time. Meanwhile, parents can use the same app on their own phones to access a “Parent Guide” (OuderGids) filled with practical tips, assistance with device settings, and conversation starters for the kitchen table, helping the dialogue between parent and child evolve over time.
Ready to go, right out of the box
Rebel Cactus is the first smartwatch to come with ChatLicense pre-installed. There’s no need to search for an app or type in a download code; the digital driver’s license is a standard feature, right alongside the clock and the weather app. Children can begin their first steps in the educational game immediately. Parents can then activate a subscription, allowing their child to complete the full program. This ensures that a child’s online journey doesn’t begin halfway through, it starts the very day the watch is taken out of the box.
First ChatLicense, then going online
“For us, this is a deliberate choice. Our watch is designed to grow with children, from their first phone call to their first text messages and apps. That involves more than just GPS and a parental app to toggle specific applications on or off. By including ChatLicense as a standard feature, we provide parents with not only visibility into their child’s location but also the tools to help them navigate what they might encounter online,” explains Annemarie Greve of Rebel Cactus.
“We always say: get your ChatLicense first, then go online. With Rebel Cactus, that’s now literally the case, as this ‘digital driver’s license’ is already built into the watch before the very first message arrives. It’s precisely when using a first device that habits are formed. How do you respond in a group chat? What should you do if someone sends you something that doesn’t feel right? When parents and children explore these things together from the very start, they maintain a mutual understanding, even as the children grow older,” adds Martine de Leeuw of ChatLicense.
